Titled Budapest Select – Patterns of Being, the show is organised by Creative Hungary and runs from 21 to 26 April at Via Olmetto 1 in the 5VIE district.
26 designers, 65 works
The 2026 edition brings together 26 Hungarian designers and brands across 65 works, spanning furniture, lighting, objects and collectible design. The exhibition responds to this year's Milan Design Week theme, Be the Project, interpreting it as both a personal position and a shared social responsibility.
Curated by Hanna Imre, the show explores how people shape the world through design, material choices and ethical awareness.
Five-part curatorial structure
The exhibition is arranged into five thematic chapters:
- Current
- Aspiration
- Fate
- Circularity
- Responsibility
Together, these sections examine how design can respond to technological, ecological and social change while remaining rooted in craft and material intelligence.
Rather than proposing distant speculative futures, the presentation focuses on practical reflection, process and the relationship between humans, objects and environment.
Growing international platform
Since launching, Budapest Select has become a recurring export platform for Hungarian design, with showcases in cities including Milan, Paris, London and Dubai.
The initiative forms part of Creative Hungary's wider strategy to support design, furniture, fashion and product businesses through mentoring, trade opportunities and international visibility.
National collective showcases remain an important part of Milan Design Week 2026, giving smaller markets a clear identity on the global stage. For Hungary, the continued presence of Budapest Select reinforces the country's ambition to position itself as an emerging Central European design hub.
This year's edition also reflects a broader fair trend: moving beyond product launches toward exhibitions centred on sustainability, authorship and cultural storytelling.
