Gotland craftsmanship shapes globally recognised furniture brand Ringvide

On the remote Swedish island of Gotland, where rugged coastlines and traditional craftsmanship define daily life, furniture brand Ringvide has quietly built an international reputation for sculptural woodworking and collectible design.

Ringvide was founded by designer Lukas Dahlén (ledt) and his wife Leila Abd Alwaheb.

Founded by designer Lukas Dahlén and his wife and business partner Leila Abd Alwaheb, the company produces handcrafted cabinets, credenzas and tables from locally sourced wood in its workshop near Visby. What began as a single sideboard designed for the couple's Stockholm apartment has since evolved into a globally recognised furniture studio whose pieces now appear in international showrooms and luxury hospitality spaces.

Dahlén first presented Ringvide's original woven cabinet prototype at SaloneSatellite in 2012, where the design quickly attracted international attention. Soon after, enquiries began arriving from global buyers, including French luxury house Louis Vuitton.

Today, Ringvide's signature woven credenzas can be found in Louis Vuitton stores, showrooms and hospitality environments, including the brand's airport lounge in Doha, Qatar. According to Dahlén, the fluid woven forms and textile-like expression of the furniture may explain why the designs resonated so strongly with the fashion maison.

At the core of Ringvide's identity is an approach that merges traditional woodworking techniques with sculptural experimentation. The brand's iconic Weave 133 credenza, crafted from solid birch and laminated birch veneer, draws inspiration from historic braiding techniques, reinterpreted on a much larger architectural scale.

The company describes its furniture as existing somewhere between functional design and sculptural art, combining unusual proportions, complex joinery techniques and organic forms. Produced in small batches or as one-off pieces, the collections prioritise craftsmanship, longevity and sustainable sourcing over mass production.

Living and working on Gotland plays a central role in the brand's creative direction. The island's slower pace, natural landscapes and strong craft heritage continue to influence Ringvide's approach to materials and form. Dahlén, who was born and raised on the island, developed his woodworking expertise alongside local cabinetmakers, grounding the studio's contemporary designs in traditional craftsmanship.

As the company continues to grow internationally, Ringvide is also working to bring more of its production processes in-house, allowing greater creative freedom while strengthening control over sustainable manufacturing and sourcing practices.

For Ringvide, the connection between furniture, craft and place remains inseparable. As the founders describe it, the island's quietness, natural light and enduring tradition of making continue to shape not only their designs, but the philosophy behind the brand itself.
