Le Design Défilé highlights French creativity at Milan Design Week

Le Design Défilé returned to Milan Design Week as a curated showcase of French design, bringing together 53 pieces that reflect the breadth of contemporary and heritage craftsmanship. Organised by the French Living in Motion collective, uniting Le FRENCH DESIGN and L'Ameublement français, the exhibition presented a cohesive narrative of innovation, identity and responsible production.

At the heart of the installation was a scenography conceived by Jakob+MacFarlane. Drawing on the codes of haute couture, the architects created a wooden catwalk that extended across both indoor and outdoor spaces. Carefully orchestrated lighting enhanced the graphic quality of the display, transforming the exhibition into a performative journey through French design.

Two spaces, one narrative
The exhibition unfolded across two distinct yet interconnected sections.

  • The first space presented 15 indoor and outdoor furniture pieces selected by Le FRENCH DESIGN. Works by designers including Andrée Putman, Constance Guisset Studio and Elliott Barnes highlighted a mix of established and emerging voices, produced in collaboration with French manufacturers and publishers.
  • The second section shifted focus to 13 French brands, each presenting three pieces that encapsulate their identity. Among them were Ligne Roset, Fermob, and Lafuma Mobilier. Together, these displays reinforced the continuity between heritage and contemporary production.

Craft, identity and responsibility
Across both sections, a total of 38 furniture pieces underscored the diversity of French design approaches. From material experimentation to refined craftsmanship, each object reflected the distinct DNA of its maker while contributing to a broader narrative of national design culture.

Sustainability was a consistent thread throughout the exhibition, with participating brands emphasising eco-design principles, recyclability and responsible manufacturing processes. To deepen engagement, each display was accompanied by illustrated texts offering insight into the history, values and evolution of the brands.

Through its curated format and immersive scenography, Le Design Défilé positioned itself not just as an exhibition, but as a cultural statement, bridging fashion, architecture and furniture design to present a dynamic portrait of French creativity on the international stage.
