Aldiss reports third consecutive year of record sales

Norfolk-based independent retailer WJ Aldiss has reported record sales for the third consecutive year for the financial year ended 27 September 2025, despite continued pressure from rising operating costs.

The retailer achieved order intake sales of £27.6 million including VAT, surpassing the previous year's £26 million milestone. Delivered sales also increased to a record £22.1 million excluding VAT, while the closing order book rose 10% year-on-year to £3.2 million, which the company described as a strong and controllable pipeline.

Gross margin improved from 43% to 44% in line with strategic targets. However, profit before tax declined slightly to £622,166 due to higher operating costs and the reversal of one-off income recorded in the previous year.

Managing director Darryl Simpson said the business remained focused on driving growth and profitability amid ongoing market uncertainty and sustained cost pressures.

During the year, the company continued investing in its operations, including the final phase of works at its distribution centre, which is expected to improve stockholding capacity and handling efficiencies.

WJ Aldiss operates two stores in Fakenham and Norwich, with a combined retail floor space of nearly 100,000 square feet, alongside its online platform.
