German furniture retailer to continue operations amid insolvency

Operations at a German furniture retailer will continue despite ongoing insolvency proceedings, as the company works towards stabilising its business and exploring restructuring options.

The firm, Interlübke, recently filed for insolvency with the district court in Bielefeld. The move is intended to address mounting economic pressures and create a foundation for long-term recovery.

According to the company, a combination of macroeconomic challenges triggered the filing. Rising costs across energy, logistics and raw materials, including wood and paints, have placed significant strain on operations, while weakened consumer demand has further impacted sales.

Despite these headwinds, production and day-to-day activities are continuing at the company's site in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. Employee wages are secured in the short term through insolvency payments, providing stability during the initial phase of proceedings.

Dr. Yorck Streitbörger of the Streitbörger law firm has been appointed as provisional insolvency administrator and will work with management to assess restructuring options, including potential investor solutions.

The company highlighted that it has already implemented extensive modernisation measures over the past four years, including investments in manufacturing technology and operational efficiencies, as well as expanding its business model through licensed production partnerships.

While these initiatives had begun to improve performance, recent external pressures have halted momentum. The immediate focus is now on maintaining operations and developing a viable path forward.

Interlübke said it will continue to provide updates as the restructuring process progresses.
