Salone del Mobile 2026: record numbers and renewed passion for design in Milan

Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026 once again confirmed its position as a key reference point for the European interior and design industry. With 316,342 visitors (+4.5% compared to 2025) from 167 countries, the fair underlined that physical trade events continue to carry weight, even in a shifting global context marked by geopolitical and economic uncertainty.

From an InteriorDaily perspective on the ground, the atmosphere in Fiera Milano Rho felt notably active throughout the week. Especially in the EuroCucina and FTK halls, movement never really slowed down. Despite ongoing industry conversations about brands moving towards permanent city showrooms, the fairground itself remained a dense and energetic meeting place for designers, buyers and manufacturers from across Europe and beyond.

Europe's role was clearly visible, with strong growth from Germany (+5.1%), Spain (+8.7%) and Belgium (+7.3%), alongside solid performance from the United States (+8.8%) and the United Kingdom (+10.4%). Overall, 68% of trade visitors were international, confirming Milan's position as a global networking platform for the sector.

But beyond the numbers, what stood out most were the material and design directions shaping the next season.

Trends spotted on the fair floor
Walking the halls, a few clear movements kept coming back across brands and segments:

Archives reopening: brands are bringing back iconic designs from past decades, reinterpreted with updated comfort and materials. There is a clear sense of continuity rather than reinvention for its own sake.
Marble in all directions: natural stone remains central, but with more expressive veining and unexpected colour ranges, from deep orange tones to saturated greens.
Blurring indoor and outdoor: outdoor furniture is increasingly indistinguishable from indoor collections. Fabrics and finishes now share the same tactile quality across both environments.
Colour and form softness: organic shapes dominate, often combined with terracotta palettes, dark greens and lighter accent tones.
Tactile materials: texture is becoming a design language in itself, with alpaca and bouclé used widely to emphasise softness and touch.

These directions reflect a broader shift seen across halls, with a focus on familiarity, tactility and cross-environment living rather than purely formal innovation.

As Maria Porro, President of Salone del Mobile.Milano, stated: "The Salone does not merely bring the world of design together: it sets it in motion."

That sense of movement was visible not only in the official programme, but also in the way visitors engaged with stands, materials and conversations.

SaloneSatellite added another layer, hosting over 14,000 students and 700 designers under 35, reinforcing the link between education and industry. In total, the fair continues to operate as a hybrid space: part marketplace, part cultural exchange, part forecasting tool for where European design is heading next.
