Chinese e-commerce platforms including Temu and Shein are increasingly expanding into furniture, creating fresh competitive pressure for Danish manufacturers in key export markets.
According to Danish industry association Træ- og Møbelindustrien, the shift is particularly visible in Germany and France, both of which remain important destinations for Danish furniture exports.

The development signals a broader evolution for fast-growing digital marketplaces that initially focused on low-cost clothing and everyday consumer goods. Furniture is now becoming a larger part of their product assortment, potentially intensifying price competition across the European home furnishings market.
For Danish producers, the trend may be most challenging for companies operating in price-sensitive segments, where low-cost imports can gain traction quickly through online channels. Manufacturers positioned around premium design, craftsmanship and sustainability may be better insulated, although they are also likely to face increased digital competition for consumer attention.
The move also reflects changing purchasing habits, as more consumers become comfortable buying larger household items online, supported by broader delivery networks and aggressive promotional pricing.
Germany and France are among Europe's largest furniture markets and have long been central to Scandinavian export strategies. Increased activity from Temu and Shein in those countries could therefore have implications beyond Denmark, affecting a wide range of established European suppliers.
The latest warning underlines how digital platforms continue to reshape the competitive landscape for furniture retail, forcing traditional manufacturers and retailers to strengthen online visibility, brand differentiation and customer service.
