Kave Home unveils limited-edition Jan armchair at Milan Design Week

Kave Home has introduced a new limited-edition version of its Jan armchair during Milano Design Week 2026, pairing collectible design with experimental biomaterials and immersive storytelling.

Presented at the brand's Milan flagship store from 16 to 26 April, the launch forms part of an installation titled Rooms for Stories: From Seat to Seed, created in collaboration with Sara Ricciardi and her studio.

Limited run of 45 pieces
The new Jan armchair has been produced in an edition of just 45 numbered units, each hand-upholstered in Yecla, Spain and fitted with an individual serial plaque.

The piece reinterprets the existing Jan design through a specially developed upholstery material created with a supplier in the Valencia region, an area known for persimmon cultivation.

Agricultural surplus persimmon is incorporated into a plant-based surface material layered onto partially recycled polyester microfibre with a cotton reinforcement core. The result is a textured dark ochre finish that references the fruit's natural tones while reinforcing the product's sustainability narrative.

The upholstery is paired with a solid ash frame finished in dark walnut, giving the chair a more premium, timeless appearance.

Installation traces the material journey
Rather than focusing solely on the product, the installation centres on provenance and process. Visitors are guided through five audiovisual episodes that explain how discarded persimmon by-products are transformed into a usable design material.

According to Sara Ricciardi, the concept invites audiences to reconsider the origins of everyday objects and the choices embedded in production.

Visible from the street, the display also turns the shop window into a public-facing design statement during the fair.

Why it matters
The project reflects a broader movement in interiors toward material storytelling, where sustainability claims are strengthened through traceable origin stories, artisanal finishing and limited-edition collectability.

For Kave Home, the Jan launch positions the brand beyond accessible retail and closer to the premium design conversation increasingly visible during Milano Design Week 2026.

It also signals growing industry interest in agricultural waste streams as a future source for upholstery, surface and composite materials.
