Castlery highlights B Corp certification as part of wider sustainability strategy

Furniture brand Castlery has announced its B Corp certification, positioning the milestone as part of a broader effort to strengthen accountability across design, sourcing, logistics and customer experience.

The certification follows an assessment of the company's performance across governance, workers, community, environment and customers, reflecting growing pressure on furniture brands to demonstrate measurable standards rather than broad sustainability claims.

According to Castlery, the process required the introduction of clearer governance structures, supplier standards and measurable targets across sourcing, operations and climate impact. The company said this includes closer oversight of timber sourcing, packaging reduction and emissions reporting, alongside carbon neutrality in its direct operations.

The brand also links the certification to product development, framing longevity as a central design principle. Modular configurations, removable covers, durable materials and repair-focused construction are presented as ways to extend product lifespan and reduce replacement cycles.

Material safety forms another part of the strategy. Castlery states that its rugs are OEKO-TEX certified, its foams meet CertiPUR-US standards and its TENCEL fibres are responsibly sourced, reflecting increased consumer attention on chemical safety and transparency in home furnishings.

On sourcing, the company says it works with verified timber suppliers and partners that meet labour and compliance requirements, while continuing to monitor standards across the supply chain. Waste reduction measures include cutting Styrofoam use, recycling corrugated cardboard and diverting returned products from landfill through reuse initiatives and external collaborations.

In logistics and operations, Castlery points to energy-efficient systems in offices, warehouses and showrooms, as well as lower-emission shipping initiatives. The company says cleaner ocean freight has helped reduce carbon output, while direct operations have been carbon neutral since 2023.

The announcement reflects a broader shift in the furniture sector, where sustainability is increasingly tied not only to materials, but to durability, traceability and operational accountability. For brands in the mid- to premium-home segment, third-party certifications such as B Corp are becoming a more visible way to communicate those commitments to consumers.
