UNS and Poltrona Frau unveil Dune Diwan, an innovative modular seating system inspired by tradition and designed for connection.
UNS and renowned Italian design house Poltrona Frau have announced the launch of Dune Diwan, a contemporary modular seating system that redefines communal spaces through the lens of culture, connection, and craftsmanship. Rooted in the traditions of the Middle Eastern Majlis, the system merges East and West, formality and informality, indoor and outdoor living.

At its core, Dune Diwan is a celebration of shared experiences. Drawing directly from the Majlis, the Arabic concept of a gathering place for meaningful conversations, the design reimagines this cultural institution through a modern, minimalist lens.
'Dune Diwan honours the heritage of the Majlis but reinterprets it through a contemporary, minimalist lens. Designed for those who navigate between East and West, it bridges ancient traditions with modern trends,' said Ben van Berkel, Founder and Senior Architect at UNS.
Designed for versatility, Dune Diwan includes low, wide cushions reminiscent of nomadic seating, which can be used on the floor or stacked for more structured arrangements. Its asymmetrical forms break away from conventional sofa design, adding a sense of movement and energy while adapting fluidly to the evolving needs of modern lifestyles.
The modular system features two primary seating elements, complemented by corner pieces, supports, low tables, and armrests. These can be configured in endless ways, from intimate corners to expansive central islands, suiting both compact and large spaces. Whether for quiet reflection or lively dialogue, Dune Diwan offers an adaptable and inviting environment.
The colour palette draws on soft powdery blues and earthy sand tones, offering a refined nod to nomadic aesthetics. Upholstered in Poltrona Frau's signature Pelle Frau® leather or fabric, with removable fabric options for ease, each piece reflects the brand's dedication to craftsmanship and practicality.
A curated set of accessories elevates the user experience, including a central table, tray, incense burner, and vase made from oak, leather, and stainless steel. These elements enhance both the function and atmosphere of the space, reinforcing the design's focus on intentionality and comfort.
The launch also includes a complementary rug inspired by Middle Eastern design, bringing cohesion and warmth to any Dune Diwan configuration.
Looking ahead, an alfresco version is set to expand the collection's reach into outdoor living. With its blend of elegance and adaptability, Dune Diwan opens new avenues for social interaction in both private and public settings.
