Atelier Daciano da Costa has partnered with Collector Design Brand to celebrate the legacy of the renowned Portuguese designer, Daciano da Costa. This collaboration aims to reissue two of his iconic designs, bringing his timeless creations to a new generation while preserving his artistic vision. The partnership highlights da Costa's innovative ability to blend functionality, elegance, and modernist principles, showcasing his significant contribution to contemporary Portuguese design.
Daciano da Costa (1930-2005) is considered a pioneer in the field of design in Portugal, playing a key role in establishing design as both a discipline and profession. His work is a reflection of the modernist movement, integrating Portugal into the global design landscape. Known for his diversity of work, da Costa's designs range from furniture to architecture, all infused with a distinctive aesthetic that combines cultural context and modern functionality.
The collaboration between Atelier Daciano da Costa and Collector Design Brand not only honours da Costa's legacy but also aligns with Collector's mission to create furniture that seamlessly blends into contemporary lifestyles. Collector, a Portuguese brand, designs pieces that combine traditional craftsmanship with industrial production, aiming to integrate well into any modern home while embracing a wide range of styles.
Two standout pieces from da Costa's portfolio are being reissued as part of this collaboration: the Alvor Chair and the Penta Armchair. The Alvor Chair, originally designed in 1966 for the Hotel Alvor Praia, is a functional and modern piece featuring a lacquered wood structure and upholstery inspired by traditional Algarve boats. The Penta Armchair, created for the Hotel Penta, exemplifies da Costa's refined design approach, with clean lines and ergonomic considerations.
These new editions were unveiled at the prestigious Maison et Objet Paris trade fair from January 16-20, 2025. This collaboration ensures that Daciano da Costa's pioneering spirit continues to influence both contemporary design in Portugal and the global modernist movement.
