The Butter Sofa by British designer Faye Toogood has won the Seating category at the 2026 EDIDA Awards, presented by Elle Decoration International Design Awards and selected by the 25 Editors-in-Chief of Elle Decor International.
Created for Italian furniture brand Tacchini, the Butter Sofa formed part of the company's New Collection 2026 and its wider Bread and Butter collection developed in collaboration with the London-based designer.

Sculptural comfort inspired by everyday rituals
According to Faye Toogood, the design originated from an exploration of tactility and comfort inspired by the familiar material qualities of butter.
"I wanted to create a chair as comforting and tactile as soft butter," the designer explained. "Modelling with slippery fingers, the modular Butter Sofa appeared."
The sofa featured generously padded forms resting on oversized sculptural volumes reminiscent of stacked building blocks. Its modular structure allowed for multiple compositions and adaptable configurations across residential and hospitality environments.
A focus on tactility and material softness
The Butter Sofa combined a wooden internal frame with multi-density polyurethane foam and hypoallergenic fibre seat cushions. Available in both fabric and leather upholstery, the design emphasised softness, rounded geometry and a tactile visual language aligned with Toogood's experimental creative approach.
The collection reflected the designer's broader interest in transforming ordinary rituals and objects into expressive furniture forms. Tacchini described the project as an exploration of "beauty in the small things of everyday life".
Expanding Tacchini's contemporary design direction
The award further reinforced Tacchini's growing presence within the contemporary collectible and high-end furniture market, where the company continues to collaborate with internationally recognised designers including Studiopepe, Karen Chekerdjian and Gianfranco Frattini.
Founded in Italy, the company has increasingly focused on blending archival re-editions with experimental contemporary collections that explore craftsmanship, sculptural forms and material research.
