Major PVC player returns: bankrupt company prepares relaunch under new ownership

A PVC producer, based at Chemelot and bankrupt since February, may restart operations later this year. According to trustee Marc van Sintmaartensdijk, takeover negotiations are progressing positively and preparations are underway to resume production in October.

Although plans are becoming more concrete, several steps still need to be completed before the PVC flooring company Vynova is operational again. "A lot of formalities still need to be completed and there are still talks with Chemelot, among others. Also, permission from the supervisory judge is still needed," Van Sintmaartensdijk said.

The intended new owner would see room for the 83 former employees to return, partly because of their knowledge of the production process. However, it is uncertain whether they will return, given the circumstances surrounding the bankruptcy.

The relationship between staff and the previous owner, ICIG (International Chemical Investors Group), came under pressure after financing was stopped late last year and financial obligations were not met.

The possible relaunch creates prospects for resumption of activities at Chemelot, although the outcome remains dependent on ongoing negotiations and formal approvals.
