Riviera Galleria, a new waterfront retail and dining development designed by Kengo Kuma, is targeted to open later this year on the Athenian Riviera.
The project forms part of The Ellinikon, a redevelopment of Athens' former international airport led by LAMDA Development. The wider scheme is positioned as Europe's largest urban regeneration project and will include a major commercial district.

Riviera Galleria has been conceived as Greece's first year-round premium shopping and lifestyle destination, intended to become a central component of The Ellinikon's retail offering.
At the centre of the design is "The Ripple", Kuma's architectural concept inspired by the movement of the sea. The development features an undulating canopy and hybrid indoor-outdoor circulation routes designed to create a seamless visitor experience across changing seasons.
According to the developer, the scheme places emphasis on natural materials, environmental comfort and a strong connection between the built environment and the coastline, presenting a new model for Mediterranean retail design.
The completed destination is expected to house more than 100 outlets, combining international luxury brands, emerging designers and premium Greek labels. A significant food and beverage offer is also planned, positioning the complex as a mixed-use retail, leisure and lifestyle hub rather than a conventional shopping centre.
LAMDA Development said Heads of Terms had already been signed with tenants representing 77% of the gross leasable area, indicating strong leasing momentum ahead of opening.
Occupying a 19,000sqm waterfront site, Riviera Galleria is intended to showcase evolving trends in physical retail, where architecture, hospitality and experience increasingly shape consumer destinations.

Construction remains underway, with major structural components including the signature canopy continuing through 2026.
Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen Athens's position as an emerging destination for contemporary architecture, luxury retail and large-scale urban redevelopment.
