XXXLutz celebrates 80 years and secures position as second largest furniture retailer globally

Austrian furniture giant XXXLutz is marking its 80th anniversary, having grown from a small post-war workshop into one of the world's largest furniture retailers. Founded on 31 October 1945 by Gertrude Seifert in Haag am Hausruck, the company initially offered painted country furniture, chipboard chests, and dollhouses, quickly gaining recognition after furnishing guest rooms for a hotel on Lake Wolfgangsee.

Today, XXXLutz employs around 27,300 people and operates in 14 European countries, including Sweden, Portugal, and Austria. It owns brands such as Carryhome, Möbelix, and mömax, and its restaurants serve over 40,000 customers daily. The company is also famed for the world's largest chair, a 30-metre-long red installation in St. Florian.

XXXLutz is actively pursuing sustainability and digital transformation through its "XXXLutz for Tomorrow" programme, analysing products, logistics, and energy efficiency, while maintaining a strong online presence with 24 e-commerce stores across Europe. Despite technological advances, the firm continues to emphasise the importance of tactile customer experience.

Thomas Saliger, spokesperson for XXXLutz, stated, 'Our industry is undergoing challenging times, but living spaces will always be needed. The next decades will be driven by technology, sustainability, and changing lifestyles.'

The company remains family-owned and committed to growth, exemplifying a successful blend of tradition, innovation, and international expansion.
