Fire at England mattress manufacturer factory yard deemed accidental

A fire broke out at a factory yard operated by a prominent sleep manufacturer in England, Trowbridge on 28 April 2026, with emergency services confirming the incident was accidental.

According to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, crews were called to the building of Airsprung on Avon Way at approximately 3:17pm to tackle a blaze involving two lean-to structures. The buildings contained manufacturing waste, including textiles, wood and paper materials.

Firefighters from multiple stations, including Trowbridge, Warminster, Devizes and Chippenham, responded to the incident, supported by a water carrier unit from Wilton. The fire was successfully contained to the two affected wooden structures within the yard.

Authorities stated that the blaze is believed to have started accidentally, and no further spread beyond the initial buildings was reported.

The incident comes at a sensitive time for Airsprung Group, which recently filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators, signalling potential financial restructuring.

While the full extent of the damage has not been disclosed, the containment of the fire suggests limited impact on the wider facility. However, the event underscores ongoing operational challenges within parts of the furniture manufacturing sector, where cost pressures and restructuring efforts remain prevalent.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the fire.
