Since 2021, the success of a sound-absorbing lighting project with multiple applications

Fabbian: Acustica, designed by MinelliFossati design studio

A light fitting can be used to illuminate, furnish, and improve the quality of a space. Fabbian has always amplified the meaning of lighting by creating products that can inhabit spaces with their theatrical presence and a strong aesthetic component: colours, shapes, and creativity that blend well with the basic principle, the light itself.

Ever since this Italian company was founded in 1961 it has been active in the indoor and outdoor lighting sector, where tradition and research go hand in hand, delivering functional, valuable products year after year that have enabled us to win awards and attain an increasingly international presence.

This combination of functionality and aesthetics reaches one of its highest expressions in the Acustica hanging lamp designed in 2021 by Gio Minelli & Marco Fossati. Inspired by the cymbals of a drum kit, this winning product has been a great success ever since it was released, and still maintains its interest thanks to a unique peculiarity: the wide, slim lampshade that absorbs the ambient sound waves and creates a high level of acoustic comfort. For the same reason, there is now a need to extend the range to include a wall-mounted version that becomes a decorative element in itself.

Not only that, thanks to its style, which can become playful with the use of colour, Acustica allows for the design of less rigorous spaces. This makes it perfect for lighting the home environment but also for public spaces, offices, waiting rooms, bars and hotel lobbies. Any place where the quality of the solutions adopted affects the general well-being of the individual.

The naturally inclined position of the hanging version, the theatricality of the light from the wall-mounted version as it diverges from the centre like an eclipse, and the lightness of the lampshade, which is available in several colour variations, make it possible to create dynamic and creative compositions of lamps. The light source itself is central and fixed, making it ideal for private or public spaces such as restaurants and luxury offices, but also for large waiting areas.

The shell is made from recycled PET, with a black anodised aluminium structure and an opal PMMA (Polymethylmethacrylate) diffuser. The LED source is available as dimmable 1..10V, DALI-PUSH, or PHASE CUT 30%-100% with integrated power supply for the pendant version, 1..10V - DALI-PUSH for the wall-ceiling version.

The collection consists of three hanging lamps for interiors of diameters 60 cm, 90 cm or 120 cm and two wall lamps available in the diameters of 60 cm and 90 cm, maintaining the same technical characteristics.

Fabbian's design intelligence combines with the sensibility of Luca Pellegrino, an entrepreneur who has always been attentive to sustainability and energy saving.

Available colours: Ocean, Coral, Concrete, Lawn green, Honey.
