For over three generations, Baltensweiler has cultivated a reputation for craftsmanship, precision, and enduring design. Flora Meier, marketing manager, emphasises, 'We produce products that last for generations. Every piece is made to be repaired, renewed, and treasured.' Drawing on her architectural background, Flora has helped the family business maintain its tradition while bringing it into the modern era.

From aluminium and steel components to timeless design, Baltensweiler has consistently upheld the same core values for 74 years: quality, sustainability, and care in every detail. The company's commitment to precision and passion is not simply about manufacturing lighting; it reflects a philosophy that every object should be a long-lasting investment, combining aesthetic appeal with technical excellence. This enduring approach once again resonated at IDD Cologne, reinforcing the brand's loyal following among architects, interior designers, and discerning clients who value both form and function.

Experiencing light in motion
In October, Baltensweiler showcased its latest collections at IDD Cologne, including the newly launched Irio wall lamp. Flora reflects, 'We wanted visitors to leave with a fascination for light, and they truly did. It was rewarding to see how people discovered how good light can transform a space.' This exhibition was designed as an immersive, interactive experience: wooden planets moved in harmony with adjustable lamps, creating dynamic shadow and light effects that capitvated visitors.
'We invited people to play with the lights. It was not just a beautiful object, it was an experience,' Flora says. 'Visitors could adjust the light, combine direct and indirect sources, and immediately see the effect.' By allowing hands-on interaction, Baltensweiler successfully demonstrated the versatility and responsiveness that define its design philosophy. For professionals and enthusiasts alike, the installation became much more than a product showcase; it became a memorable sensory experience.

Innovation rooted in tradition
While the company continues to introduce contemporary lighting solutions, its foundation in family heritage ensures that innovation never compromises its core values. 'Our values haven't changed at all. We still focus on quality, durability, and design that lasts for generations,' Flora explains. The presentation at IDD Cologne illustrated this philosophy, as every product reflected a balance of modern engineering and timeless principles, combining technical precision with design built to withstand both trends and time.
Baltensweiler's team continues to focus on materials, finishes, and mechanisms that guarantee longevity, ensuring each lamp or fixture is repairable and upgradable. This careful attention to detail allows the company to push creative boundaries while staying faithful to the standards set by the founders; a theme visitors repeatedly praised at the fair, proving that innovation need not come at the cost of tradition.

Engaging with customers
Baltensweiler's participation at IDD Cologne highlighted its deep engagement with the German market. 'We loved getting feedback from customers and connecting with planners and retailers,' Flora notes. 'It's how we learn what truly matters in daily use and how our lights shape spaces.' These exchanges during the event provided valuable insights into evolving trends, practical requirements, and aesthetic preferences, which continue to inform the company's design and development processes.
Beyond expanding its market reach, Baltensweiler deepened its connections within the design community at the fair. 'Exhibitions like IDD Cologne are a dialogue for us,' says Flora. 'We don't just present our work, but we listen, exchange ideas, and get inspired by others.' This open, collaborative approach once again reflected the company's belief that great design grows through conversation and shared experience. By engaging directly with architects, planners, and retailers, Baltensweiler continues to ensure its lighting solutions remain relevant, refined, and deeply human in their purpose.
'We're proud to present our work at the machwerkhaus Köln, centre for design and urban production,' Flora adds. 'It's the perfect setting for us, a place where innovation, craftsmanship, and design truly come together.'
