CSIL noted that Italy's export strength is supported by a high level of diversification, both in destination markets and product categories. This balanced structure has contributed to the sector's resilience, helping mitigate the impact of regional demand fluctuations and geopolitical uncertainty.
In terms of global positioning, Italy ranks second in the PageRank trade centrality index, behind China. The index measures a country's structural importance within international trade networks, taking into account not only trade volumes but also the strategic relevance of trading partners.
The United States remains a key export market for Italian furniture, although it is increasingly affected by tariff-related pressures and intensified competition. At the same time, India is emerging as a market with growing potential, supported by more favourable tariff conditions and evolving demand.
Despite the sector's solid performance in 2025, CSIL forecasts suggest a more challenging outlook in the short term. Italian furniture exports are expected to remain weak throughout 2026, with signs of stabilisation anticipated in 2027.
The findings reflect broader trends affecting the global furniture industry, including shifting trade dynamics, regulatory changes and evolving consumer demand across key markets.
For European manufacturers and suppliers, the report underscores the importance of maintaining diversified export strategies and adapting to changing international conditions in order to sustain competitiveness.
Italy's strong design heritage, combined with its ability to balance craftsmanship and industrial production, continues to support its position as a leading player in the global furniture trade, even as the market enters a period of adjustment.
