According to newly published figures, the company, Slettvoll, generated turnover of around DKK20.5m in Denmark last year. However, the business posted a deficit of DKK4.4m, marking its largest annual loss in the country to date.

Over the past four years, Slettvoll's cumulative losses in Denmark have approached DKK14m, underlining the continued challenge of establishing profitability in the market.

The company, which specialises in furniture, lighting and Scandinavian-style interiors, currently operates 17 stores across Scandinavia. Its Copenhagen location, opened on Oslo Plads in 2019, remains its only store in Denmark so far.

Reports indicate that high premises costs have weighed heavily on earnings, offsetting the benefits of rising sales. The result reflects broader pressures facing physical retail operators in premium urban locations, where occupancy costs and operating expenses continue to test margins.

For furniture and interiors brands expanding internationally, the figures highlight the difficulty of translating brand recognition and turnover growth into sustainable profitability, particularly in single-store markets.

Slettvoll's latest results also mirror wider trends across European home furnishing retail, where consumer demand has shown resilience in some segments, but fixed costs remain a significant barrier to improved earnings.
