An Airbnb landlord has launched an attempt to claim damages using an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated photo. The landlord demanded thousands of euros from a London student for alleged damages, including a broken coffee table. However, the student saw through the fraud.

The landlord provided photos to support his claims. The student disputed these, pointing out to Airbnb that the image of the broken coffee table showed digital inconsistencies. After intervention by British newspaper The Guardian, Airbnb reversed the decision and the student was credited the claimed amount in full.
Although the landlord initially seemed to get his way, the incident led to a warning. If such behaviour is repeated, the landlord will be permanently removed from the platform.
