Sanctuary in the city:

Umbrella + Wagstaff spotlight workplace wellness at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025

From 20–22 May 2025, Umbrella Furniture and Wagstaff will transform their Clerkenwell showroom into a dynamic sanctuary for workplace wellness during Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW). Showcasing innovative design, immersive wellness activities, and thought-provoking dialogue, the Brewhouse Yard space will be a key destination for design professionals and enthusiasts alike.

As part of the curated programme, the "Umbrella + Friends" initiative brings together eight leading brands in contemporary furniture design: Piaval, Sancal, Treku, Wendelbo, Midj, New Works, Extremis, and architectural surface specialists T6. Each brand will present new products that reflect a commitment to quality, innovation, and well-being in design.

Highlights include:

  • Piaval, showcasing its craft-forward Trench side chair, Apèro table and more, driven by "craftsmanship, innovation from technological research and collaborations with renowned international designers."
  • Sancal, presenting vibrant pieces like the Link sofa and Suricata desk, described as "passionate, open, joyful yet humble."
  • Treku, with its Leiho table system and AuraOpen Frame sideboard, underscoring their role as global exporters "ensur[ing] the best quality and service."
  • Wendelbo, exhibiting timeless designs like the Duvet lounge chair and Circle occasional table, the result of "long-lasting collaborations with international designers."
  • Midj, whose eclectic Amelie and Mys collections are crafted for "both public and private spaces."
  • New Works, bringing to life a collection designed to "inspire and evoke interest in visitors."
  • Extremis, the Belgian brand known for blending "practicality, design and joy" with new collections Manille and Bistroo.
  • T6, reimagining space with "cutting-edge architectural film" and surface innovation.

Thought leadership and well-being in focus
A major highlight will be the CPD panel talk, "The Importance of Colour and Biophilia in the Workplace", chaired by Design Insider's Alys Bryan. Panelists include Emma Bestley (YesColours), Dirk Wynants (Extremis), Pål Eid-Hviding (Fora Form), and Sam McCarthy (Plantplan), offering deep insight into how sensory design influences workplace wellness.

'Focusing on embracing wellness, this panel talk will give in-depth insight into how biophilia and colour can play a vital part in the future of design, particularly in the workplace,' the organisers say.

Wellness activations throughout CDW
Visitors can recharge at daily wellness breakfasts, unwind with massage sessions provided by Massage Angels, and enjoy the ever-popular puppy therapy sessions — all designed to promote relaxation and mindfulness during the bustling design week.

Umbrella will also participate in the Brewhouse Yard Hub Trail on Wednesday 21 May, a full day of design talks, experiences, and networking, culminating in the Umbrella panel and an invite-only drinks reception hosted by William Hands.

The week wraps up on Thursday with a finale party featuring DJ Thee KC Leigh, live entertainment, and a celebratory atmosphere surrounded by curated collections.
