Homeware sales on the High Street continue upward trend of more than 15%

Homeware sales on the High Street recorded another strong performance, marking a third consecutive week of growth.

Data from the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker shows total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose by 10.74% for the week ending 30 March 2025. Homewares led the charge, with LFL sales increasing by 15.67%, a notable improvement from a slight decline of 0.32% during the same period last year. This result marks the tenth positive outcome for the category in 2025.

In-store homeware sales also improved, growing by 2.73% from a base of 0.13% in 2024. This represents the eighth positive weekly result for physical stores in the category since the start of the year.

Total in-store LFL sales rose 4.62%, while non-store LFL sales surged by 16.72%, showing significant growth from last year's base of 1.88%.

BDO attributed the strong performance to seasonal and cultural factors, stating: "In a week that culminated with Mothering Sunday, retail sales grew across all segments and channels, with lifestyle leading across the board and online sales enjoying double-digit growth."

Favourable weather also played a role, with "warmer, brighter weather with clearer skies" helping to drive footfall. In contrast, the same period last year was marked by unsettled, wet, and windy conditions.

Overall footfall increased by 5.9%, the highest recorded so far in 2025. Shopping centres led growth with a 6.2% rise, followed closely by high streets at 5.8% and retail parks at 5.7%.

The continued uplift in both physical and online sales suggests growing consumer confidence and increased seasonal spending across the homeware sector.
