The future of the classic 'Leksandstolen' uncertain after bankruptcy Erkers

The Swedish furniture brand Erkers Furniture has been declared bankrupt. The manufacturer of the iconic Leksand chair, located in Siljansnäs, has stopped operations after 81 years. The company has declared bankruptcy at its own request, leaving the future of this classic chair currently in uncertainty.

In the 1960s, Erkers Furniture became known as a modern furniture maker, but now the company is facing difficult times. CEO Eva Agge Erkers acknowledges that the current situation requires patience, as the bankruptcy process is still ongoing before concrete answers can be provided.

The bankruptcy is attributed to a lack of liquidity, exacerbated by challenging economic conditions caused by the pandemic and external factors. The news of the bankruptcy raises doubts about the future of the popular Leksandstolen (Leksand chairs), a symbol of craftsmanship and tradition in the Swedish furniture industry.
