The personal collection of legendary designer and style icon Iris Apfel will be auctioned online at Christie's from 28 January to 13 February. She was known for her signature oversized glasses, bold fashion choices, and vibrant personality.
Apfel passed away in 2024 at the age of 102. Her collection includes over 200 pieces, spanning clothing, accessories, and decorative art from her homes in New York City and Palm Beach.
Titled "Unapologetically Iris: The Collection of Iris Apfel," the auction highlights her eclectic style. A stand-out item is a life-sized ostrich bar from the 1970s, affectionately named "Gussy," which features a functional bar concealed in its wing and comes with a plush Kermit the Frog. It is expected to fetch up to $8,000.
Other notable items include an 18-inch cast-resin sculpture of Apfel riding a scooter, starting at $500, a pair of Louis XVI-style cream-painted chaises estimated at $800, and an oil-on-canvas painting of a Maltese dog titled After Carl Reichert.

Apfel's wardrobe also takes centre stage, featuring a Carolina Herrera colour-block gown, a recycled-plastic rainbow fringe coat, and 10 pairs of designer eyeglasses by brands such as Christian Dior and Emilio Pucci.
Select highlights will be displayed at Christie's Miami from 24 to 25 January and at The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach from 29 to 31 January. The full collection will be exhibited at Christie's New York from 8 to 13 February.
