Held biennially, the awards recognise 100 projects across interior architecture and design that reflect the scope and influence of French creativity. The initiative brings together designers, manufacturers and artisans, positioning French design within a broader global context while emphasising craftsmanship and innovation.
Led by Reda Amalou and Stéphanie Ledoux, AW2 was selected for its King's Island Eco-resort, a project defined by its integration with the natural environment. Conceived as an extension of the surrounding landscape, the development is structured around a looped promenade that follows the site's topography, guiding visitors through the terrain while maintaining a continuous connection to nature.
The main building is designed to emerge from the ground, its form following the curvature of the site to reinforce spatial continuity. This architectural language extends into the interiors, where open views are oriented towards both sunrise and sunset, strengthening the relationship between built space and its environment.
Additional accommodation is arranged through a series of villas positioned within the forest and along the coastline. Elevated on stilts, these structures overlook the sea and are configured to maximise views while minimising impact on the terrain. A principal villa, located on a promontory, is composed of two volumes oriented towards the horizon, offering uninterrupted visual connections to both the landscape and surrounding gardens.
Across the project, the emphasis is placed on continuity between interior and exterior space, with layouts designed to maintain constant visual and physical engagement with the natural setting. The approach reflects a broader architectural strategy focused on immersion, where the built environment supports a sense of coexistence with its surroundings.
The recognition at the French Design 100 Awards underscores AW2's ongoing exploration of site-responsive architecture, combining spatial design with environmental sensitivity.
