Strong signal for circular economy: Mattress recycling reaches Federal Council

The Federal Council has adopted the motion for a resolution "A Second Life for Mattresses – Enabling Recycling." It states that reliable framework conditions and planning certainty are necessary to enable a circular economy in the mattress industry. This represents a decisive step: The circular economy of mattresses has reached the highest political level.

The motion for a resolution, which was submitted to the Bundesrat by the State of Hesse, follows in key points the arguments of the mattress association, which it formulated together with NABU and IKEA Germany in an open letter and addressed to environmental ministries, specialist authorities and political decision-makers throughout Germany.

'We expressly welcome the fact that our demands for clear framework conditions and expanded producer responsibility are now being addressed politically,' says Managing Director Martin Auerbach. 'Only with reliable guidelines can the industry invest in truly circular solutions.'
