A surge in fraudulent webshops targeting Danish consumers has reached an unprecedented level, according to a study by media outlet TjekDet. More than 100 fake online stores have been identified, though the actual number is likely higher. These webshops use Danish-sounding names such as "Theo & Liv Copenhagen" and "Olsen & Olsen" to appear legitimate while selling cheap Chinese goods instead of the advertised quality Danish products.

TjekDet analysed over 10,000 ads from nine fraudulent webshops, which have collectively appeared at least 30 million times on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. For example, Olsen & Olsen alone created around 7,000 ads with a reach exceeding 10 million views.
Niels Ralund, e-commerce director at Dansk Erhverv, condemned the scams, stating, 'I hate scammers. I can't have anything to do with it. It's below the belt in every way.' He warned these practices could undermine consumer trust in online shopping.
Some ads also include fabricated emotional stories and AI-generated images to manipulate potential buyers. Despite Meta removing some ads for violating policies, many continue to circulate. Meta has not responded to inquiries about their responsibility regarding these fraudulent ads.
