Aifunghi debuted at Material Matters during 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen

Aifunghi, a new design brand from the Netherlands, debuted at Material Matters during 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen (18–20 June 2025). The brand's first collection transformed sustainable principles into high-end, functional furniture. Showcasing ten distinctive pieces, including seating, tables, lighting, and upholstered furniture, Aifunghi utilised pioneering renewable materials to create beautifully made, disruptive designs.

'Our mission was to start with a clean slate,' shared husband-and-wife team Marije and Bart Schilder, co-founders of Aifunghi. 'We envisioned furniture that not only genuinely embodied sustainability but disrupted traditional practices and set a new benchmark for luxurious and environmentally responsible design.'

Together with seasoned design professionals and partners Michiel Geluk and Mo Aouraghé, Aifunghi brought expertise and passion for sustainable design and innovation.

At the foundation of Aifunghi's ethos was Mycelium Based Composite, a revolutionary material that combined hemp fibres with the natural binding power of mycelium. This delivered durable, compostable, and recyclable furniture. The innovative material went beyond being a sustainable alternative, offering a captivating aesthetic that made no compromises on quality or luxury.

The debut collection exemplified Aifunghi's founders' sincere commitment to sustainability and design, aligning with the 2025 3daysofdesign theme, "Keep it Real."

Aifunghi launched its debut collection in Copenhagen, featuring the Campinio & Porcini Suspended Lamps, the Bolete Side Table, and the Banet Lounge Chair.
Each piece, such as the Banet Lounge Chair and the Porcini Suspended Lamp, integrated authentic natural materials and showcased designs that respected the planet.

With strategic collaborations with material innovators Savian by BioFluff and Agoprene, Aifunghi aimed to elevate renewable resources. Savian by BioFluff contributed natural, plant-based alternatives to fur and plush upholstery, while Agoprene delivered groundbreaking seaweed comfort foam, an oil-free, biodegradable, and low-carbon upholstery material.

'Nature doesn't produce waste, and neither should we. Aifunghi's commitment to building sustainability into every decision was inspiring,' said Celine Sandberg, Co-Founder of Agoprene. 'Collaborating with them reminded us that no single material or solution would fix everything, but many great ones working together can.'

'We often said Savian by BioFluff is crafted through a combination of fibre science, textile technology, and savoir-faire, and this was truly realised through the collection,' added Roni GamZon, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer at Savian by BioFluff. 'Working in collaboration with nature is the ultimate luxury.'

The debut collection featured captivating mushroom-inspired design created from sustainable materials. It showcased a range of unique products, including the Campinio Pendant and Table Lamps, which combined tactile, plant-based fur exteriors with the natural beauty of mycelium for soft, diffused lighting.

The Porcini Suspended and Table Lamps added versatility with compact, upholstered shapes and gentle illumination. For seating, the Banet Dining and Lounge Chairs redefined comfort with their elegant curves and durable mycelium-composite construction, while the Venosa Lounge Chair offered a shell-shaped mushroom silhouette, perfect for both relaxation and conversation.

Completing the collection were the Bolete Side Tables, which blended organic-inspired forms with sumptuous upholstery and fused glass tops, available in two sizes and select colours.

Aifunghi is more than just another sustainable design brand: it marked the first step of a movement toward a future defined by environmentally responsible design.
By blending natural materials with high-end aesthetics, Aifunghi inspired a subtle yet disruptive shift toward sustainable luxury. This innovative approach set a new standard for the industry, redefining what it means to live and create sustainably.
