Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has emphasised in an internal message to employees that artificial intelligence (AI) will have a profound impact on employment within the company. According to Jassy, the implementation of AI will eventually lead to a smaller workforce.
'We will need fewer people for some tasks, and more people for others,' said Jassy. He states that routine tasks, in particular, will quickly become automated. Employees who actively engage with AI and adapt to changes will, according to him, remain relevant within the company.© Dreamstime

Jassy's warning aligns with broader developments in the tech sector. Several tech companies, including AI startup Anthropic, foresee a significant portion of entry-level positions potentially disappearing due to AI applications.
In the Netherlands, a similar trend is expected within the ICT sector. Despite an increasing number of graduates at the vocational level, fewer new job openings are expected to arise due to automation, which contrasts with staffing shortages in other sectors.
