Sawmills were generally well stocked with spruce logs, and assortments were quickly transported and accepted. While Tyrol saw a dip in demand and falling prices, regions such as Burgenland, Carinthia and Upper Austria experienced slight price increases. Pine sales were sluggish due to weather-induced quality risks. Larch continued to command high prices, with demand exceeding supply.
In industrial wood, the paper, pulp and board sectors held sufficient stocks. Supply and demand were balanced overall, though eastern Austria faced some backlog due to weaker demand. Prices were stable nationwide. Red beech fibre wood saw strong demand in the south, but limited supply in the north.
The energy wood market remained oversupplied, with negligible demand outside long-term contracts. A seasonal recovery is not expected.
Despite favourable weather in May, Austria still faces a significant rainfall deficit, heightening bark beetle risks. Authorities advised regular forest monitoring and prompt removal of infested trees.
Prices reported reflect transactions from May to early June and exclude VAT, which varies by category and tax regime.
