The growth follows a prolonged downturn, with the category previously experiencing 15 months of declining sales. April's performance also reflected a 7.7 percent rise in volumes, the quantity of goods sold, the third consecutive monthly increase.
The broader retail market also showed strength. Excluding automotive fuel, total retail sales values climbed 7.4 percent to £36.4 billion year-on-year.
All figures are non-seasonally adjusted, highlighting the underlying strength of consumer demand without accounting for regular seasonal variations.
The latest data points to growing consumer confidence in the homeware segment, suggesting a sustained turnaround after last year's declines.
