In 2024, the European Union's trade with Ukraine demonstrated significant growth, marking a trade surplus of €18.3 billion. According to the latest data from Eurostat, the EU exported €42.8 billion in goods to Ukraine and imported €24.5 billion, reflecting an increase in both exports and imports compared to 2023. Exports grew by 9.4%, while imports increased by 7.0%.
Key export products from the EU to Ukraine included mineral fuels (€6.8 billion), electrical machinery (€4.3 billion), and machinery (€4.2 billion). The growth in mineral fuel exports was particularly notable, with an increase of €4.1 billion compared to 2021. This rise in exports is linked to Ukraine's reduced imports of these fuels from Russia and Belarus, which have been partially replaced by EU imports.
The data highlights a continued trend of robust trade between the EU and Ukraine, with notable growth in key sectors. The EU's trade surplus reflects both the demand for Ukrainian agricultural products and the EU's increasing role as a key supplier of energy and machinery to Ukraine.
