Timeless craftsmanship and contemporary innovation:

Swedish design icons to debut at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025

Two of Sweden's most respected design houses, String Furniture and Grythyttan Stålmöbler, are set to make their exhibition debut at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025, presenting curated selections of core and newly launched collections across two standout venues in central London.

String Furniture, renowned for its flexible and minimalist shelving systems since 1949, exhibits at The Great Hall, Old Sessions House. The brand showcases pieces including the sculptural Pira G2 shelving system, the modular Centre Centre designed with Form Us With Love, and the Museum Collection developed with TAF Studio.

'String Furniture has always been driven by the belief that good design is instantly recognisable, has an ingenious construction, makes a real difference to people's lives – and is ideally made in Sweden!' says Bo Hellberg, CMO at String Furniture. 'This year, we're thrilled to be exhibiting at Clerkenwell Design Week for the first time. We'll be showcasing parts of our range that we think represent our beliefs well, like Pira G2 originally from 1954, Centre Centre by FUWL launched only last year and Museum by TAF Studio. All of them with timeless designs that cater to the evolving needs of modern spaces, both in the workplace and at home.'

Pira G2, designed by Anna von Schewen and Björn Dahlström, reinterprets a 1950s classic by Olle Pira, offering a freestanding, floor-to-ceiling system ideal for open-plan interiors. Meanwhile, Centre Centre, a bold and versatile office storage system, reflects today's dynamic work culture. Hellberg adds, 'Centre Centre is a system we believe sets a real benchmark, with a very modern approach to modularity combined with a bold attitude in design. Our ambition is that this will become a modern classic.'

The company also hosts a thought-provoking panel discussion on The Purpose of the Modern Office, in collaboration with Form Us With Love and Architonic, followed by a networking drinks reception at its exhibition space.

Just a short walk away, Grythyttan Stålmöbler, the Swedish outdoor furniture manufacturer established in 1895, marks its 130th anniversary with a refined exhibition at Church of Design, St Bartholomew the Great. The brand highlights its heritage and innovation with new colourways for its timeless designs, including the A2 Armchair in Green and the High Tech Chair in Ivory, Petrol, and Chestnut.

'As Grythyttan celebrates 130 years in 2025, we are delighted to bring a range of new contemporary colourways into our collection,' says Karl Lindqvist, fourth-generation family founder. 'The High-Tech series launches in a Chestnut, Ivory and Petrol colourway, while the A2 and Classic series have been given a new look too, with a lacquered light green oak on a black frame. Celebrating 130 years of Swedish tradition and craftsmanship, Grythyttan continues to craft from the natural materials of wood and steel, balancing tradition and modernity. All production is carried out by hand in our factory in Grythyttan. No two pieces of furniture are identical – and this is something we are extremely proud of.'

Both brands promise to captivate visitors at CDW25, offering a compelling dialogue between Swedish design legacy and contemporary living.
