Ikea opens My Cardinet to strengthen presence in western Paris

Ikea has inaugurated its second Paris-based design and ordering workshop, Ikea My Cardinet, located in the 17th arrondissement. The 154 m² space aims to provide city dwellers with convenient access to personalised home planning services. Positioned near Pont Cardinet metro station, the workshop targets not only the local population of 165,000—44% of whom live in under 40 m²—but also the broader western Paris region.

Described by Naja Fourmaux, deputy director of Ikea Paris Centre stores, as "a space for inspiration, a design and ordering workshop", the new unit complements the brand's other Paris locations in Daumesnil, Rivoli, and Italie 2. It is part of Ikea's broader national rollout of compact urban formats, with similar workshops already operating in cities like La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Toulouse and Perpignan, and another opening scheduled in Pau this June.

At Ikea My Cardinet, visitors can book appointments with one of eight in-house advisors or use self-service areas and digital terminals to plan their interiors. The focus is on kitchens and bedrooms, with layouts designed to reflect real-life challenges such as limited space or sloped ceilings. Emphasis is placed on modularity and customisation, with samples of Ikea's typical range on display.

Customers seeking assistance with assembly can opt out of the new Pax 2.0 quick-assembly wardrobe system and instead be connected to Taskrabbit for next-day service.

The launch supports Ikea's omnichannel strategy to "bring the brand closer to its customers by combining complementary physical and digital contact points". According to store director Solène Débus, the concept is gaining traction, with 3.2 million visitors recorded across Parisian units since September.

In 2024, Ikea France reported €3.7 billion in revenue, with online sales accounting for 27% of total turnover.
