As of the end of June 2024, the GfK Market Monitor for the Swiss retail sector was down 0.5 percent, slightly below the first half of 2023. All non-food markets reported a decline.
In the 1st half of 2024, the Swiss retail sector was significantly affected by seasonal weather shifts and temperature fluctuations. In addition, the persistently below-average consumer sentiment continues to lead to reluctance to buy. According to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), inflation in June 2024 was up 1.3 percent compared to the same month last year.

June 2023 was dominated by predominantly dry and warm summer weather, whereas June 2024 was characterised by exceptionally little sunshine and a lot of rain. This had a significant impact on most markets at the end of the first half of the year.
DIY was among the categories significantly below the previous year's result for the first half of 2024. Household/housing declined in most areas at the end of June 2024. The biggest losses could be observed in garden furniture and parasols/sun protection.
Online shopping remains a constant trend and achieved cumulative growth of around 3 percent at the end of June 2024.
