Leolux finds support at Dutch Enterprise Chamber after divisions among shareholders

The furniture industry is currently facing significant challenges. There are sharp fluctuations in sales and ongoing issues within supply chains. The family-owned business Leolux is also experiencing a decline in sales, which has caused divisions among the shareholders of the Leolux Furniture Group. For some time, there has been a disagreement, particularly within the family, over the company's strategic direction and financing. As with many family businesses, this conflict has intensified at a time when the company desperately needs peace and stability.

Over the past year, Leolux has significantly reduced costs and cut the number of employees. Despite these measures, the company suffered substantial losses in 2023, and profits are still not in sight this year. Disagreements within the board blocked a major capital injection, stalling negotiations. Consequently, on June 20, Leolux approached the Dutch Enterprise Chamber, requesting the appointment of an additional director to facilitate decision-making.

The court has since ruled to appoint two directors: one at the holding company level and one at the Leolux Furniture Group level. Their aim is to establish a decisive management and shareholder structure through the demerger of the two companies. Additionally, stable financing has now been secured for the operating company in agreement with the family, putting Leolux in calmer waters.

Managing director Sebastiaan Sanders stated that Leolux is in an excellent starting position. As soon as the market situation improves, Leolux will be at the forefront, providing employment for over 300 employees from the Venlo region.
