In April 2024, China's own furniture retail sales were about 11 billion yuan (over 1.4 billion euros: 1,413,500,000). This indicates a slight increase compared to the same period last year, according to Statista.
After decades of development in the furniture industry, China has become the world's largest furniture producer and exporter. Being one of China's main exports, a significant proportion of Chinese furniture products are destined for the global market. In 2022, the total value of China's furniture exports was about €63 billion.

At the same time, the development of the domestic furniture market is being driven by an increase in purchasing power among Chinese customers. Constantly rising incomes in both urban and rural China have raised the living standards of a large part of the Chinese population. Therefore, Chinese consumers are willing to spend more on household decorations. In response, the furniture market in the country has developed into a multi-billion dollar industry.
Wooden furniture represents a large part of the furniture industry in China. Traditionally, Chinese customers choose solid wood when it comes to furniture materials. Bamboo and rattan furniture have also become increasingly popular in recent years.
