In 2023, the Austrian market for floor coverings and parquet experienced a notable downturn. According to the latest Brachenradar report on floor coverings and parquet in Austria, manufacturer revenues plummeted by 17.8% compared to the previous year, totalling approximately €293 million.
The primary reason for this decline was the unexpectedly weak demand for renovations, which accounted for over three-quarters of the drop. This trend was especially pronounced in the residential sector, where significantly fewer floor coverings and parquet were replaced than in previous years. The parquet market was particularly impacted, with manufacturer sales dropping by 20.6% year-on-year to just under €147 million, reaching levels last seen in 2019.
On the other hand, resilient and textile floor coverings were somewhat supported by relatively stable demand from non-residential construction.
