Thousands of Swedes among consumers impacted by Chinese scam group

A criminal network in China has targeted e-commerce to obtain unsuspecting consumers' credit card and email information. By creating fake online stores, they are said to have obtained 450,000 credit and debit card numbers, writes Di Digital.

In total, around 800,000 people in the USA and Europe are believed to have been affected by the scams. Among them, 15,000 are said to be Swedes.

A report on Ehandel says that the scam artists behind scam sites are part of organized criminal groups. They collect data from customers that can then be used for phishing attempts. The network is said to have been active for almost a decade and has its origins in the Fujian province of China, according to an investigation by The Guardian, Le Monde, and Die Zeit.

Red flags which indicate a possible scam deal, as given in the report, include extremely low prices and consumers receiving different products than the ones ordered.
