Interview with Massimo Brigandì, General Manager at Contardi Lighting

'Our products completed various settings underlining the central role of light in residential and hospitality projects'

Contardi Lighting is an Italian lighting company, whose contract division is leading the way in developing customised and large-scale lighting solutions for luxury hospitality projects, designed by some of the world's most prestigious architectural firms. InteriorDaily interviewed Massimo Brigandì, Contardi Lighting's General Manager.

Massimo Brigandì – Contardi Lighting General Manager.

Could you tell us about the history of the brand?
'Contardi Lighting is an Italian lighting company, whose contract division is leading the way in developing customised and large - scale lighting solutions for luxury hospitality projects. The history of Contardi began in 2006, when Achille and Paola Carcano continued the legacy of its founder's creative genius: Michele Carcano, who was driven by a strong passion and exceptional technical know-how, a point of reference in the sector for the prototyping of many lighting products. Achille and Paola are both guided by a lucid and farsighted vision and are consolidating the Contardi project by working on products and orders for leading companies.

They have chosen to entrust the development of the brand and business to me in 2006, being nominated General Manager in 2018. The ideal blend of family and managerial expertise has led the company, in a short time, to constant growth and evolution; this has given it an international dimension, epitomised by the 2015 opening of its American branch, Contardi USA – in New York, the nexus of the luxury market. This has set the stage for the entry of Federico Chinazzi, the third generation of the Carcano family.'

You were recently at Fuorisalone. What did you think about it?
'For Milano Design Week, we presented our archi-decorative approach in two different locations, multiplying our presence in the city: our showroom in Corso Monforte 20, which celebrated one year since its opening last year, and the exhibition space of our new partner BI.CI. Progetti e Arredamento, located in via della Spiga 9. This allowed to discover the brand's cutting - edge lighting solutions in a double presentation showcasing Contardi's know-how through updated products and the most representative collections displayed in the showroom on the one hand and the company's technical knowhow on the other. As a matter of fact, at BI.CI, Contardi products completed various settings underlining the central role of light in residential and hospitality projects.'

What products were on show and how were they received?
'We presented the expansion of the Bianca collection, designed by DainelliStudio and Calypso Ap, the wall-mounted version of the brand's iconic lamp designed by Servomuto, a true example of Contardi's ability to look beyond by developing advanced projects capable of contributing to the future of lighting. During the week, we registered positive feedback, especially the collections were interesting for both insiders, such as designers and architects, and customers. Great enthusiasm was expressed for the Calypso, Clara, Kiki, Bianca and Fly families, and we are very pleased with that.'

What's in store for you now? Are there any future fairs on the program?
'Certainly, our efforts are now projected toward Euroluce2025, an important event for our sector, as well as an indispensable stage to make our reality known. Many novelties also await our showroom, such as different showcases and fittings throughout the year, not to mention the restyling of Calypso, our best-seller, in a more "natural" and summery look.

In the last quarter of 2024,we will unveil the new Contardi Lighting catalogue containing the indoor and outdoor collections, which will be the starting point of a major corporate project.'
