UK consumer confidence holds steady at -21 in March

Consumer confidence in the UK remained stagnant in March, according to the latest data from the GfK Consumer Confidence Index. The overall figure remained unchanged at -21 for March 2024.

Significant expenditures such as furniture, experienced a slight downturn of two points to reach -27. However, this figure marks a notable increase of six points compared to the same period last year, indicating a more favourable outlook for major purchases.

On the other hand, the general economic situation of the country over the past 12 months saw a decrease of two points, settling at -45. Despite this decline, it reflects a substantial improvement of 17 points compared to March 2023, suggesting a more positive perception of the economy's recent performance.

Meanwhile, the index assessing changes in personal finances over the past year showed a modest increase of one point, reaching -13. This marks a notable improvement of 13 points compared to the same period last year, indicating a greater sense of financial stability among consumers.
