Swedish brand Okko Design presents Parallel Lines, crafted from hemp

The Swedish design brand Okko Design presented a new acoustic wall panel at the Stockholm Design Week 2024 in collaboration with designer Anna von Schewen. It marks the first collaboration between Okko Design and the experienced designer, who is continuously immersed in the realms of furniture, interior design, and craftsmanship.

The acoustic wall panel, named "Parallel Lines", is crafted from hemp, a natural and sustainable material. Utilising the soft and flexible nature of hemp fibre, which resembles both soft textile and firm paper, Anna von Schewen has created a way to achieve volume and an airy, sculptural sense of calm and light energy.

Parallel Lines serves as an acoustic relief, creating tranquillity with its sound-absorbing properties, while its elegant artistic expression reflects Anna von Schewen's interest and curiosity in the aesthetic expression and functional attributes of the material.

'By weaving strips, like those found in an everyday notebook, I wanted to create a three-dimensional surface of repetitions and wave movements. The thin hemp leaf, akin to a sheet of paper, possesses a natural elasticity that contributes to giving Parallel Lines a light and poetic expression,' explains Anna von Schewen.

The material hemp: The majority of hemp comes from Finland, where it is pressed into various strengths. The product is extremely sustainable, as the material is 100% recyclable and hypoallergenic, and it has a negative CO2 balance. The production of hemp fibres and recycled materials is sustainable both from a natural and human perspective. All hemp acoustic panels belong to the highest sound absorption class, Class A. These products do not require an air gap, and the required room attenuation is achieved with a lower quantity of acoustic panels due to their extremely high quality compared to other sound absorbers.
