Outdoor collection Molteni&C honours Gio Ponti

Roughly ten years ago Italian furniture brand Molteni&C reissued furniture and furnishings designed by Gio Ponti at the Salone del Mobile 2012. This year Molteni&C once again pays tribute to Ponti's work, with the introduction of their outdoor collection.

Italian architect and designer Giovanni “Gio” Ponti, (1891-1979) created a vast amount of work in the furniture sector. This is demonstrated in his three Milanese houses which were fully furnished in the Ponti style. The houses in via Randaccio, 1925, Casa Laporte in via Brin, 1926 and the last in via Dezza, in 1957 is an expression of his home design ideas. Gio Ponti was an Italian promoter of industrial design and introduced the idea of interior furnishing ranges produced as being a sophisticated, economic, democratic and modern.
Molteni&C managed a reissuing project of furniture and furnishings designed by Gio Ponti for products for these private homes and limited editions.

Molteni&C introduced a range of new designs, including the iconic D.154.2 winged armchair and the D.150.5 chaise longue, known for its presence on the sundeck of the luxury ocean liner Andrea Doria in the mid-1950s. These pieces mark the brand's venture into outdoor furniture under the guidance of creative director Vincent Van Duysen. The brand has maintained the integrity of the original designs while modernizing their production methods.
