French studio launches its first collection called '1976'

1976, Nouveau Standard's first collection questions an intimate bond: our memories. Each of the 4 pieces seems to come from a past era full of distant thoughts and magnifies in their own way the interiors of our grandparents.

1976, Nouveau Standard's first collection questions an intimate bond: our memories. Each of the 4 pieces seems to come from a past era full of distant thoughts and magnifies in their own way the interiors of our grandparents.

Jonathan Fleurance and Simon Brandeau, founders of Nouveau Standard, reinterpret the rustic and rural style where furniture was often full of patterns, with massive shapes and anchored to the ground. From this nostalgic and creative proposition, the duo focused on two iconic elements: the ball and the cone. The shape of the cone gives an imposing presence to the piece, while the ball evokes the softness of movement. These two signature characteristics nourished the collection with the massive and raw lines that the term "rustic" suggests.

The 1976 Collection is composed of a chair, a low chair, a table, and a lamp. Made up of a wooden structure covered in oak cladding, the pieces are then darkened to highlight the authentic spirit sought for this first collection. The 1976 chair has two possible cushions: one in foam designed by Florence Hamon covered with a Nobilis fabric and the second in a wooden slab with a lava enameled insert by Studio Ler. The 1976 armchair also has two possible cushions with two different fabrics from Nobilis and Pierre Frey, and two foams to guarantee comfort and support.

This collection transcribes a profound desire of the studio to offer furniture with character and personality. Jonathan, cofounder of the studio, explains: "the overloaded pattern is a nod to the 70's and plays on contrasts with the more primary forms of furniture. We like the idea that furniture can be an actor in our lives, which touch us, at the intersection of the present and the past. From this desire to create a connection, our pieces allow us to understand differently our relationship with time by offering the possibility of combining certain elements of our pieces and give them several lives."

The 1976 table has four possible combinations of legs enhanced once again by the work of Studio Ler and their unique material: Chambois lava. This unique material was chosen by Nouveau Standard for its raw appearance and its marbling.

Finally, the 1976 lamp has a unique place in the collection as it will be present in different forms in each collection. Developed in collaboration with Aliénor and made of a nickel base, a LED light tube, a metal body and its solid oak modules - its presence is essential and reassuring in the collection.

" 'Comforting', 'enticing' are the adjectives that we had in mind while creating these pieces. The 1976 Collection is also a declaration of love to a more reasoned consumption of furniture. Made by Kermadeleine, an artisan located in Brittany, its production is synonymous with quality and durability. The customisation and modularity of certain pieces allow a certain lastingness of the furniture over time. » adds Simon, co-founder of Nouveau Standard.

The next step for Nouveau Standard is to offer other elements of personalization through other materials, colors and finishes, but above all Jonathan and Simon want to continue to feel and to remember. They will continue to make jumps into the past using older techniques, know-how put forward by the unique and strong lines and shapes developed by the Nouveau Standard studio.
