An interview with Katie Marshall, director at Bluebird, on Novaluna’s venture into the UK market

‘We’re very excited for this collaboration’

Having started in Matera in 2013, the Italian bed manufacturer Novaluna is now making its way into the UK market. The brand's goal is to offer beds that transcend mere furniture and embody a life companion; offering a warm embrace and creating a cosy, sanctuary-like nest within the home. Recently, InteriorDaily had the pleasure of sitting down with Katie Marshall, director at Bluebird Agents & Consultancy, who shared insights into Novaluna's journey and their foray into the UK market.

A new chapter for Novaluna in the UK
Katie shared the news that Bluebird Agents & Consultancy has recently signed up Novaluna to represent the brand in the UK. This move marks a significant milestone for both Bluebird and Novaluna. 'We're very excited for this collaboration,' Katie shares.

Novaluna, established in 2013, is nestled in the Matera district, a hub renowned for its furniture craftsmanship. Born of the same space and the same management as F.lli Cornacchia. a well established furniture frame manufacturer, Novaluna emerged as a distinct bedding brand, drawing on the rich heritage and expertise of its sibling company. Over the years, Novaluna has curated a diverse portfolio of over 100 designs, spanning various bed frames and complementary furniture pieces.

Navigating the UK market: opportunities and challenges
While the UK bedding market presents its share of challenges, Katie remains optimistic about Novaluna's prospects. 'The bedding market is tough at the moment, as per the rest of the furniture market. Novaluna has had some really good years until the pandemic. They've had to get past that, but they're coming out of it stronger than ever now. It's still a challenge in the furniture industry right now, but Novaluna is in a really good place,' Katie explains.

'The furniture market in general is very traditional in the UK, but especially the bedding market. Divans for example are quite popular. And displays usually exist of beds lined up. I think Novaluna will be really good, because they don't fit in a line up. They're standalone pieces. You have to give them space. This is something that's needed in the market here.'

Emotions and design
Novaluna's ethos revolves around the belief that a bed transcends its utilitarian function, becoming a cherished companion and a sanctuary within the home. This philosophy is evident in their slogan: emotions and design. 'They believe that a bed isn't just a bed, it's a piece of furniture, but also a part of your home, a companion, somewhere to rest and relax,' Katie explains. 'They know how important a piece of furniture it is and they design it in this way.' Every aspect of Novaluna's design is focused on this, offering high quality products, with a wide catalogue that can accommodate beds with cutting-edge design and more contemporary beds, because every home has its own taste and style.

Novaluna in Milan
As Novaluna prepares to showcase its latest pieces at the upcoming Salone del Mobile.Milano, anticipation runs high. With new models and reimagined classics, Novaluna promises to captivate the visitors. 'We'll be showing eleven beds with cabinets to go with it. Some of which are new models, such as the Daniel, and some are established ranges, like the Artemis. They're all in a mix of different fabrics and leather, with a lot of different options for legs and some with electric storage,' Katie says. Novaluna offers a lot of different options. The combinations of materials and colours for the Artemis for example, are designed to personalise the room and make it capable of offering relaxation at any time of the day, to keep up with new contemporary habits.

You can visit Novaluna at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2024, from April 16-21, at Hall 7 Stand D22.
