An interview with Sofie Grøndal Head of Marketing & E-com at Cane-line:

Life made comfortable – a driving force for design company Cane-line

With over 35 years of industry experience, Cane-line, a Danish design company renowned for its furniture solutions for both indoor and outdoor settings, has garnered widespread recognition. At the heart of Cane-line's ethos lies the concept of "life made comfortable", driving their mission to enhance the quality of life through thoughtfully crafted furnishings that elevate relaxation and leisure spaces. InteriorDaily recently interviewed Sofie Grøndal, Head of Marketing & E-com at Cane-line.

Can you tell us more about Cane-line?
'Cane-line, a Danish design company, founded in 1987, has over 35 years of expertise in the design and production of functional and comfortable furniture for both outdoor and indoor. We firmly prioritise quality, innovative technologies, and comfort in our products. This ensures that our furniture is carefully crafted with utmost consideration for the environment and the well-being of people.

Cane-line possesses ownership of both production facilities situated in Indonesia and Lithuania. This strategic asset affords us strong advantages in overseeing and tailoring production to meet specific requirements. The ownership enables us to work and adjust the production process, facilitating optimisations and adjustments to match our needs and changes in the market.'

How are the market conditions at the moment?
'As a global company, our operations span across more than 100 markets. We maintain a prominent position in most markets. To mention a few emerging markets, we are experiencing strong growth in France and Switzerland. In Australia, we have established a local showroom and office in Melbourne to cater to the regional market. Our extensive global presence exemplifies how our products can be adapted and used in different climate and settings, such as the jungles of Rwanda, the cityscape of Dubai, and the beautiful Swedish countryside.

Acknowledging the challenging market conditions across various industries, including ours, we are committed to navigating and optimising our position to adjust to these dynamic circumstances.'

How does Cane-line incorporate innovative technologies in its products, both outdoor and indoor?
'For Cane-line, designing and producing innovative design is a combination of various elements, encompassing the selection of premium materials, the incorporation of innovative technologies, and the cultivation of a timeless design expression. In the pursuit of innovative technologies for our designs, one of the key considerations is the added value it brings, particularly in terms of longevity. A significant example is our QuickDryFoam®, an important component of our QuickDry & Airflow system. This foam plays a focal role in the composition of our outdoor cushions, ensuring rapid drainage after heavy rain and facilitation of effective air circulation in humid weather conditions.'

You recently presented your products at imm cologne. What did you present there and was it well received by the visitors?
'At imm cologne, we presented our new collection for 2024, which includes both outdoor and indoor novelties. For instance, visitors could explore our new series Sticks, which includes both dining, lounge, kitchen and accessory design pieces.

Visitors could also experience the new indoor designs of Pace – a lounge chair and coffee tables. Originating from classic Danish design principles, Pace sets the tone for a Nordic and refined home. With soft shapes and exquisite details, the Pace series presents a formal and exclusive atmosphere. Pace is the embodiment of Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen MDD's visionary craftsmanship, blending a timeless appeal with modern characteristics.

Our new collection was very welcomed by visitors, and we had a busy fair with many inspiring talks. The recent imm cologne proved highly successful with many meaningful engagements with both new and old connections.'

Our upcoming engagement includes the highly anticipated Salone del Mobile.Milano in April and 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen in june, pivotal events on our calendar.

Fresh off the launch of our latest collection, featuring both indoor and outdoor designs, we are eager to evaluate its reception among private customers this spring. This collection symbolises our commitment to exceptional design and upholds our renowned standards of quality. Looking forward, our strategic focus extends to the planning of the 2025 season. We consistently draw inspiration from diverse sources, and now we must cultivate these ideas into outstanding designs which matches our high standards of quality. This forward-thinking approach stresses our dedication to maintaining quality in both current and future designs.'
