French decor and furniture retailer seeks buyer after failed financial negotiations

A French home decor and furniture retailer is facing mounting financial pressure after failing to reach an agreement with its financial partners, prompting the company to seek a new buyer. The retailer had been engaged in months of negotiations aimed at securing fresh liquidity and restructuring its bank debt, but discussions ultimately proved unsuccessful.

The talks, conducted under formal conciliation procedures since January 2026, were intended to stabilise the Maisons du Monde's financial position through measures including potential equity solutions. However, a challenging environment marked by geopolitical uncertainty and weakened consumer demand has complicated efforts to reach a deal.

The group now faces immediate financial constraints, including ongoing cash flow consumption and urgent funding needs. A key concern is a €25 million loan repayment due on April 22, adding pressure to secure a solution in the short term.

As a result, Maisons du Monde is exploring the possibility of bringing in a new investor or buyer to support its restructuring and ensure business continuity.

The situation highlights the strain facing parts of the home furnishings sector, where rising costs, softer consumer spending and broader economic uncertainty are testing financial resilience.
