Marazzi reinterprets Ligurian slate with new Mystone Pietra Ligure collection

Marazzi Ceramiche introduces Mystone Pietra Ligure, a new porcelain stoneware collection inspired by the historic slate of Italy's Liguria region, translating a traditional material into a contemporary architectural surface.

Ligurian slate has long been recognised for its distinctive geological characteristics, including fine-grained textures, layered formations and deep grey tones. As described, it features "shaley rocks sedimented in parallel layers that form distinctive tiny fractures and depressions," combined with "deep, full colours in shades of grey and leaden hues that still never lose their luminosity."

With Mystone Pietra Ligure, Marazzi reinterprets these qualities into a durable and versatile material suited to modern interiors and exteriors. The collection aims to preserve the visual identity of natural stone while enhancing performance, offering what the brand positions as a balance between tradition and innovation.

The large-format tiles are designed for both indoor and outdoor use, reflecting the original application of Ligurian slate in architecture. A 20 mm thickness option is also available for exterior settings, supporting continuity between built environments and surrounding landscapes.

The collection includes a range of sizes, from 20×120 cm to 75×150 cm, enabling flexible installation patterns through combinations of formats and colour variations. The palette draws directly from natural mineral tones, with warm shades such as Beige and Cenere alongside cooler hues including Bianco and Antracite, allowing for compositions rooted in regional design traditions.

A key technical feature is Marazzi's 3D Ink Premium Technology, which ensures precise alignment between surface texture and visual pattern. This results in finishes that are described as "extremely realistic and tactile," reinforcing the material's connection to its natural inspiration.

Through Mystone Pietra Ligure, Marazzi continues to explore how traditional materials can be reinterpreted through advanced manufacturing, offering architects and designers a contemporary solution grounded in Italian material heritage.
