Wayfair to open first Florida store as retail expansion accelerates

Wayfair is set to expand its physical retail footprint with the opening of its first large-format store in Florida, planned for late 2027 at Galleria Fort Lauderdale. The new location, spanning approximately 94,000 square feet across two levels, will form part of a wider redevelopment of the shopping centre.

The move marks another step in Wayfair's transition from a purely online retailer to a hybrid model that combines digital and physical experiences. The Florida store will offer a full range of home products, including furniture, décor, housewares and appliances, alongside design services to support customers with home projects.

The assortment will be tailored to the local market, reflecting South Florida's coastal lifestyle, with a focus on indoor-outdoor living and entertaining. Customers will be able to take home smaller items immediately, while larger furniture pieces will be delivered through Wayfair's logistics network.

Wayfair's expansion into brick-and-mortar retail continues to gain pace. The company already operates stores in the Chicago area and Atlanta, with additional locations planned in Ohio, Colorado and New York. The Fort Lauderdale store represents its sixth major retail announcement.

The strategy highlights a broader industry shift, where online-first players are investing in physical stores to enhance customer engagement and provide a more immersive shopping experience.
